Since 2019, we have partnered with VMware’s Women Connecting Women program to deliver workshops to the summer intern class and their VMware mentors.
In addition to working with Women Connecting Women this year, we were also invited to deliver short programs on Navigating Burnout to VMware’s CodeHouse participants.
CodeHouse is a three-day technical experience for students. The Atlanta session was targeted at undergraduate Black and Latina women in Computer Science and the Palo Alto session had an audience of graduate-level women in Computer Science.
Along with collaborating with a cross-functional team to develop a solution to a charge presented at the start of the weekend, participants also had development opportunities like the Gild Collective workshop focused on burnout. This is a topic that while rampant in the workplace is also significantly impacting students at all levels. In fact, a recent study from Ohio State University found an increase in students reporting burnout—up to 71% in April 2021 from 40% in August 2020. We’re so glad we could participate in this powerful event for women in STEM to provide tools and resources to support mental health on campus.
